'It Hurts Me Too' (Mary Baker, 2025, tet)
'It Hurts Me Too' (Mary Baker, 2025, tet)

IT HURTS ME TOO (Mary Baker, 2025, tet) is bright red with a pale red watermark, bubbly gold edge, and a large triangular green throat. It is the only red I know of out of Guy Pierce's GUY'S SWAN SONG, and the only child out of David Kirchhoff's almost sterile FRACTURED HEART. Flowers have heavy substance as well as very good sun and rain resistance, are positioned well above the low arching foliage, and measure 5.5 inches on 23 inch scapes with three-way branching and 12 to 15 buds.
Blooms begin in early midseason and foliage is evergreen. IT HURTS ME TOO bloomed beautifully for 38 days (5.5 weeks) from June 19 through July 27 in 2024. IT HURTS ME TOO is easily fertile both ways and produces exquisite seedlings. Seedling 1811: Guy's Swan Song X Fractured Heart. NOT FOR SALE (registered and named for hybridizing purposes).

'Lojza' (Mary Baker, 2025, tet), afternoon

LOJZA (Mary Baker, 2025, tet)a Czech name pronounced LOY-ssahis my late father's namesake. Dad was the life of the party and lit up the room like his daylily lights up the garden. When my late mother selected her daylily namesake, she also inadvertently selected seedling 1520MIE as dad's daylily namesake, saying "This one is loud and the center of attention, just like your father."

LOJZA is bold saturated yellow with a big bright red feathered eye over a yellow to green throat. Blooms measure six inches on 30 inch scapes with three-way branching and 15 buds. LOJZA begins blooming in early midseason, has semi-evergreen foliage, and is fertile both ways.

More about my late father (the person): Dad was born in Omaha, Nebraska; son of John, a World War I Army combat veteran, and his wife Ann. Dad was fluently bilingual (Czech/Bohemian and English). He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the intelligence division during World War II, stationed in England in the towns of Gis and Eye. Dad left the military as a sergeant, and attended Creighton University where he pitched baseball. Dad had a high batting average and pinch hit for the Bluejays when he wasn't scheduled to pitch. Dad was drafted by many major league baseball teams but did not accept any offers, although he enjoyed playing semi-pro baseball and fast-pitch softball for a few years. He was inducted into the Omaha Softball Association (OSA) Hall of Fame in 1984. Dad was a tenor who sang opera and at weddings, funerals, and special events. He became a dentist and met my mom while singing at church. Dad loved to dance with mom.

More about LOJZA (the daylily formerly known as seedling 1520MIE): Parents are Dragon Nation X One Hot Mama. Siblings are the dramatic ONE HOT DRAGON (2022) and the bright, cheerful EENZER (2023, my sister Eileen's namesake). They are 75% siblings of MARY BARBARA (2020, my late mother's namesake) which is out of Dragon Nation X Busy Being Fabulous, as BBF's pod parent is One Hot Mama. NOT FOR SALE AT THIS TIME (currently held for hybridizing; may be offered in the future).
