MARY BARBARA (Mary Baker, 2020, tet) is bright lemon yellow with an etched, veined, feathered, and notched red eye that darkens at the outer edge. Throat is large and brilliant green. Blooms measure 8 to 9 inches on 32 inch scapes with three-way branching and 17 to 24 buds. Semi-evergreen foliage. Pollen fertile. Begins blooming in early season and continues to bloom through midseason. Looks like a work of art and is very fragrant. My late mother chose this daylily to bear her name shortly before her death. MY HEART'S DONE TIME (Mary Baker, 2023, tet) is intense red with a lighter red watermark and a chartreuse to green throat. 'Purple Cane Church' (Mary Baker, 2023, tet)

PURPLE CANE CHURCH (Mary Baker, 2023, tet) is near white with a big dark purple outer eye, lighter purple inner watermark, bright green throat, and dark purple edge. Blooms measure 5 inches on 26 inch scapes with two-way branching and ten buds. Starts blooming in early midseason. Semi-evergreen foliage. Makes slender/smaller fans. 'Tribute to Bryan' (Mary Baker, 2024, tet)

I first met Bryan Culver when Bryan presented his daylily hybridizing program during the 2017 ADS Region One Meeting in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Bryan greatly impressed me by staying for the very late Friday evening Region One Hybridizers Presentations (most attendees had left; those remaining were mostly us presenters). Bryan was very supportive—enthusiastically cheering us on, encouraging us, and genuinely caring about our programs. But wait—there's more! Bryan was one of Paul Owen's and my students during Garden Judges Workshop 2 at Karol Emmerich's beautiful Springwood Gardens the following Sunday morning (that workshop was SO much fun!).

The daylily TRIBUTE TO BRYAN (Mary Baker, 2024, tet) is near white with heavy substance and a deep green throat. The diamond-dusted blooms measure six inches on 29 inch scapes with four-way branching. Bud count is typically 21 to 25. During our 2022 drought year with very little supplemental irrigation (just enough to keep the grass paths alive), bud count was 17 to 18. Blooms begin in early midseason. Foliage is evergreen. Fertile both ways. Grows vigorously and makes a showy clump. Seedling 1768: White Room X Spacecoast White Frosting Limited. $100 (two fans)

TRIMMED IN TENDRILS (Mary Baker, 2021, tet) is a lemon yellow, cream, and pink polychrome with a deep green throat edged in toothy tendrils. BISON BLIZZARD (Mary Baker, 2020, tet) is a near white with heavy substance and a large vibrant green throat. Sepal edges are sometimes tinged pink. Blooms measure 6 to 7 inches on 33 inch scapes with four- to five-way branching and 15 to 19 buds. Well-spaced flowers begin blooming in midseason and display beautifully without crowding. Dormant foliage. Grows vigorously in our zone 5b garden, earning designation as a "Bison" series daylily. Fertile both ways and sets pods easily. BISON LEMONADE (Mary Baker, 2018, tet) is a diamond-dusted lemon yellow unusual form crispate with dark green throat. Petals pinch, sepals curl. Flowers measure 6 inches on 28 inch scapes with four-way branching and 27 buds. Midseason to midseason late blooms. Dormant foliage. Reblooms each year just like its pod parent, the full-formed PICASSO'S DREAM. Color and green throat are evidence BUTTER CREAM is a grandparent. BISON LEMONADE is from a bee pod on PICASSO'S DREAM. PICASSO'S DREAM is surrounded by unusual form daylilies, so the pollen parent is most likely a neighboring UF. What a clever bee! Pod fertile, pollen looks good. BRYCE FARNSWORTH (Mary Baker, 2013, tet) is a ruffled and diamond-dusted five inch near white with green throat and wire gold edge. Scapes are 35 inches tall with four-way branching and 29 buds. This early midseason bloomer with semi-evergreen foliage is named for my late friend Bryce Farnsworth, liaison for the AHS historic and modern daylily display gardens at North Dakota State University in Fargo. Hardy and vigorous at NDSU in Fargo; in Champlin, Minnesota; and in Bismarck, North Dakota. Sets pods easily and has powerful pollen. Sibling of HILLSDALE AVENUE. 'Driving through Des Moines' (Mary Baker, 2013, tet)

DRIVING THOUGH DES MOINES (Mary Baker, 2013, tet) is a mischievous, fun daylily that features diamond-dusted 6.5 inch pale orchid pink blooms with a large yellow to green throat. The 35 inch scapes have three-way branching and 20 buds. Unusual form crispate with curling sepals. Segments have lots of motion resulting in various playful looks, hence the name (like driving on the Interstate through Des Moines, with all its twists and turns). This early midseason bloomer was a gift from my mentor, Oscie Whatley, to use with my near-white hybridizing program. Dormant foliage. Easy pods and pollen fertile. FRACTURED HEART (David Kirchhoff/Mary Baker, 2020, tet) is an exquisite and unique bright red on the pink side over a distinctive throat with brilliant green center. Throat transitions into narrow darts as it spills onto the petals and sepals. Segments have a corduroy texture. Flowers measure 5.5 inches on 30 inch scapes with three-way branching and 15 buds. FRACTURED HEART begins blooming in early midseason and continues to bloom over a long period of time. Semi-evergreen foliage. Hardy and grows well in our zone 5b Nebraska garden. I was quite taken with FRACTURED HEART when I first saw it as a seedling during a visit to Daylily World in Sanford, Florida the year before David and Mort moved to Kentucky. David generously gave it to me and it is registered with his permission (thank you, David!). No pods; pollen takes persistence and is challenging to use. IN EDDIE'S MEMORY (Mary Baker, 2022, tet) is near white with a big violet eye over a green throat. Petals have a matching violet edge and an outer gold edge. Blooms measure 5.5 inches on 32 inch scapes with three-way branching and 12 buds. IN EDDIE'S MEMORY begins blooming in midseason and continues blooming over a long period of time. On an established clump, the many beautiful blooms remind me of graceful butterflies in flight. This daylily is named to honor the late Eddie Watkins, drummer and founding member of the Chapel Hill, North Carolina Indie rock band Polvo and beloved father of Ned and Lucie. Semi-evergreen foliage. Easily fertile both ways. IN EDDIE'S MEMORY is my first introduction out of Richard Akers' gorgeous BLACK AND WHITE BALL.
